Benjamin Hebbert

Benjamin Hebbert works as a violin maker, restorer and expert working with musicians and museums. After studying at the former London College of Furniture, he taught courses on Musical Instrument History, and Instrument Design Analysis at London Guildhall University, London Metropolitan University before becoming head of musical instrument making and furniture making & conservation at West Dean College. He was European Specialist Head of Sale for Musical Instruments at Christie's and held a fellowship in Art History from the Metropolitan Museum of Art for his work on musical instruments. He is completing a doctorate on perceptions of music as the measure of the soul in Renaissance culture, and how that relates to innovation in musical instrument design at the University of Northumbria, and is also a member of St Cross College, Oxford University.
