Ancient Music at Oxford is a collective based at the University of Oxford dedicated to the interdisciplinary study, reception, and performance of ancient music. We approach the scholarship of ancient music from a variety of angles, exploring the vast and diverse world of ancient musical thought and performance. By bringing together scholarship and creative practice, our work offers multifaceted insight into how ancient Greek music might once have been heard, felt, and understood. 

We are dedicated to promoting ancient music as both a scholarly and practical pursuit, drawing on surviving ancient sources including literary, linguistic, philosophical, archaeological, and musical evidence from antiquity. This integration, both intellectual and creative, is at the heart of what Ancient Music at Oxford seeks to do. Our approach demonstrates how collaboration between disciplines can animate the past, allowing every audience, from other specialists to the general public, to encounter ancient music as a living art.

As the organisation has developed, we have created a vibrant annual programme of events, including a seminar series that connects scholars from across the globe, conferences and workshops throughout the year, and an annual concert dedicated to the performance and exploration of ancient music.
