Aidan Taylor

Aidan Taylor is an Irish-Canadian conductor, composer, and double reed specialist currently based in Oxford, UK. He studied composition at the University of Toronto under James Rolfe, Christos Hatzis, Gary Kulesha, and the lineage of Stravinsky, Copland and Bernstein. He specializes in music from the Medieval and Renaissance period; combined with Celtic and Nordic folk influences, this forms the basis of his work. 

His music has been commissioned, performed, recorded, radio broadcasted, and toured in 25 countries across 5 continents by; the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Island Symphony, Island Chamber Winds, Toronto Wind Collective, the Metropolitan Wind Orchestra, Cork Chamber Music, Contemporary Music Collective, Untitled Ensemble, Q Lab; chamber musicians of the Cleveland Orchestra, New World Symphony, Chicago Civic Orchestra, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Niagara Symphony Orchestra, l’Orchestre Métropolitain, National Arts Center Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra; musicians of institutions including the Royal Conservatory of Music, Sibelius Academy, Julliard School of Music, University of Oxford, University of Toronto, Tokyo College of Music. 

His body of work includes 7 fully staged ballets, 6 recorded albums, several symphonies, operas, film scores, staged theatre productions, and a large collection of chamber works. He served as the music director of both the Toronto Chamber Symphony and the Toronto Medieval and Renaissance Consort for three seasons. He also held the position of solo English horn with Orchestra Toronto for 3 seasons. He has premiered, performed, and conduced works in world class venues including Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Roy Thomson Hall, Symphony Hall, Anniversary Hall, Severance Music Centre, and Blossom Music Centre.
